AIDS Counselling Trust is a sub-partner of Mavambo Orphan Care in the Mavambo Children Vana project funded by USAID. The project’s overall goal is to mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS on Zimbabwe’s vulnerable children by enhancing the sustainability of care and support services for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC). ACT is implementing in Harare North.
In pursuit of the overall objective, the project seeks to achieve the following strategic objectives.
- To strengthen the capacity of communities and local service providers to support vulnerable families and children.
This objective is being achieved through Care plan development and updating, Birth Registration Assistance, Education Assistance, and Enhancing Parent/ Child Communication through Families Matter! Programme, Strengthened Livelihoods of Households and promoting Child-friendly schools
- To strengthen the capacity of vulnerable households to care for children.
This objective is achieved through Placement of Lead CCW at health facilities, Risk assessments, Support groups for HIV positive Children, adolescent Sexual reproductive education through the no mean no model and coaching boys into men and commemoration of days
- To strengthen the capacity of the public sector social service system to support vulnerable families and children.
This is achieved through supporting Children protection Committees, a support DSW MIS and strengthening the Social service workforce.
